ICE: A Few Bad Apples Or Policy Of Terror

On Independence Day eve, half-asleep but scrolling through social media, I came across a story about a dog. Someone surrendered him to the shelter. The poor thing was so traumatized that it plastered itself into the corner of the kennel, froze there, and peed on itself. It sat like that for hours in his own pee, until the owner of the shelter took pity on him. I watch the shelter owner’s YouTube channel where he “sits with dogs” who need a little extra love, care, and attention so that they can come out of their shells and be seen for who they really are. It helps find them new parents, he says.

In the process, the viewer learns the dog’s story, or as much of it as the shelter knows. This dog happened to witness his owners being dragged out by ICE and was left there alone until a stranger got him and took him to the shelter.

I immediately reached for my little Lulu, cuddling and kissing her soft face, wondering what she would do if I vanished. And then it hit me right in the gut! Many deported immigrants have children… What happens when someone is picked up from work and does not return home?

The only way I could overcome the sadness, anger, and fear was to uncover the truth. According to the left-leaning media, we live in a police state, and ICE is the new Gestapo. According to the right-leaning media, Trump is delivering on his promises, and ICE agents are just doing their job.

I jumped into the rabbit hole, sorting through data and figures that frequently surprised me. So, for those of you who like to think of themselves as “independent” thinkers, here is what I will be going over.

1) What immigration policy was during Obama, Trump 1.0, Biden, and Trump 2.0
2) Which president did what and how? (I was surprised!)
3) Who can and who can’t be deported? What about US citizens?
4) What can ICE agents do and what can’t they do? Do they need a warrant?
5) How does ICE decide where to raid?
6) What is the actual detention/deportation process?
7) What about the people, pets, businesses, property, and taxes immigrants paid?
8) How prevalent is ICE brutality?

Here we go. This is a long post, so grab your coffee! I’ve been working on it for a couple of days.

There are some 5.6 million children in the US who are still under 18 and have at least one undocumented parent. There are about 2.7 million children, of whom both parents are undocumented.

“A large majority (85%) of the 5.62 million citizen children at risk of household deportation are younger than 15. (Source)”

That’s potentially millions of kids left without parents. However, I’ll address this in due time. First, let's look at policies, immigration enforcement, and tactics from Obama to Trump 2.0.
