The Psychological Superpower You Didn't Know You Had
And the 30-Days Self-Exploration Challenge, Week 1.
So, it looks like some of you had some questions related to forgiveness… I am not surprised. It's one of those things where everyone knows "it's good for you," but the details elude us, and we don't really know how to put the theory into practice.
Here's a really deep dive into the topic that answers all of them as much as I can with help from Buddhism, Christianity, and lots of smart people who did extensive research and wrote really good books on the subject.
I'll expand on some of the things I mentioned last week and add a ton more, including a practical, step-by-step guide for you. You'll learn:
How to tell if you're holding grudges because I guarantee you that you are.
Why you should let go (what you're doing to yourself by holding grudges)
How to let go.
The stages of forgiveness
And A LOT more!
Today, we also begin the 30-Day Self-Exploration Challenge, as promised. The prompts for the coming week are at the end of the post. Raise your hand if you plan on doing it. It beats New Year’s Resolutions.
And just for fun, here are some pictures and videos from Greece!
Let's begin.
Think about all that nagging depression that doesn't seem to go away even with medication. How about your cranky mood, sarcastic, jaded responses to almost everything, and deep self-criticism? And somehow, this is connected to something that happened long ago…Most people don't see the connection between holding grudges and their psychological and physical well-being. I am willing to bet the house that you're one of them. I've been there, too.
Dr. Fred Luskin, one of the world's leading experts on forgiveness and author of Forgive for Good: A Proven Prescription for Health and Happiness, puts it bluntly: "Unforgiveness is when you rent too much space in your mind to someone else's bad behavior." Ouch. What if we could evict those bad tenants? That's where forgiveness comes in.
Why Forgiveness is Good for You (Yes, Even Physically!)
