The Sunday Scoop
The trip continues
I wonder if you know today is a very special day… if you are an Alice in Wonderland fan. It’s National Mad Hatter Day. You’re welcome. “Do you have any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?”
If your friendships feel dry, stale, routine, and maybe even boring, consider reviving them with a tea party. Play some games for no other reason but to hang out and do something fun and different. I’ve been watching people on the beaches here play cards for hours, toss balls of various sizes, enjoying a variety of games. Refreshingly, hardly anyone pulls out a phone. Instead, people stroll, nap, read books, and chit-chat for hours. Some splash in the water, competing with the ten-year-olds for the silliest way to jump over a wave.
I tried to lay down and soak some rays, but Lulu found the periphery of my towel as the most enticing place to dig holes. I finally gave up shaking the sand off the towel and just lay there while the little excavator worked her back legs in my direction. I figured sand doesn’t hurt. She had fun. So did the nearby people watching the whole thing. I was glad to be of service…
We were in a place called Sunny Beach. And sunny it was. This time of year, they put away the beach umbrellas and lounge chairs they rent out to tourists, packing them close enough for strangers to become good friends, sharing snacks, and putting sunblock on each other’s backs. I learned that renting beach umbrellas and lounge chairs is a huge business in the summer. People pay as much to stay on the beach during the day as they pay for a hotel room at night. No, don’t tell me it’s insane. I know it.
Sunny Beach felt like a slice of paradise without the tourists and all the tourist trappings and noises. For some reason, I remember Hawaii in the 90s, when I lived there, and half of California hadn’t yet moved to the islands. It was like that. Peaceful, sunny, pleasant.
The reason we came to Sunny Beach, other than the beach, was the Old Town of Nesseber. Here are some pictures. See if you can figure out why I wanted to do it. Click on the link.

Two new videos came out on YouTube. Are you watching YouTube? Just curious who is. And if you are, feel free to shoot me some feedback. I feel like I am getting better, but, ya now… I’m too close to the project to be objective.

I imagine that, if I did know everything, I WOULD be bored out of my skull. It is so refreshing to know that I can learn stuff from other people and situations. There is no end to what we can pick up.
