Bulgaria prides itself on ancient history. Most of it exists in ruins. But this one place still lives and breathes the mountain air and stories of rebels and poets. Lulu ran in the ghost steps of Indzhe Voyvoda, a fierce leader (voivoda) of an armed band of outlaws (haiduti) in the 17th century when Bulgaria still suffered under Ottoman Empire rule.
