I remember when I worked at the UN, the UN Population Fund made predictions for the world’s population plateauing by 2035 and then dropping off a cliff. I also remember the environmental discussions that went with it - from pollution to food scarcity. Back then (1999), concerns revolved around a possible world crisis triggered by competition for dwindling resources. UNPF anticipated that things would come to a bottleneck situation, squeezing people through and that billions won’t make it.
