Stories stick, and don't care if they are true. Life becomes a tapestry woven from the threads of our experiences and memories. But memory is not a perfect recorder of events. Many factors influence memory,  including cognitive biases, leading us to remember events supporting our beliefs.

We remember more events that evoke strong emotions and often build them into the central core of our identity stories. These could be moments of triumph, trauma, profound change, inspiring, terrifying, or transformative. Many characters inhabit our story world, each with a specific relationship to who we've become.

Overcoming identity stories proves challenging. It involves confronting deeply ingrained psychological patterns, navigating social, familiar, and cultural pressures, challenging our own beliefs, re-evaluating role expectations, and navigating internal conflicts. It also means confronting the emotions connected to our identity stories and possibly reliving painful experiences, which may feel scary at times.

Since I'm in Bulgaria and sort of in my mother's orbit, it must have been time for a particular story of mine to get a revision. I wonder if the upgrades are built into the human operating system automatically. Those who reject the prompt to accept the upgrade end up more miserable without it because defragmenting your hard drive helps with optimal performance.
