When our son was 18, he asked to purchase a gun. Though neither of us owned a weapon, we each had been trained in firearms safety-and saw to it that he underwent the same. He and his wife own two guns, which are locked away.
Now that my wife has gone on, I personally see no reason to own a gun. Then again, I have never had the feeling that my masculinity depends on externals.
